Samuel Foster (Norman Beaton) works hard trying to support his family in a South London multi-storey council flat. His character is based on the fictional Good Times patriarch James Evans Sr. Canadian actress Isabelle Lucas portrays Samuel's wife Pearl Foster, and Carmen Munroe portrays Pearl's gossipy best friend Vilma. Munroe and Beaton would later star in Desmond's as married couple Shirley and Desmond Ambrose.
