Meet Aaron Best: a former NBA player who has fallen on hard times. The favorite son in a city where high school basketball stars are eternally idolized. Amid a government takeover in the city, Aaron catches the attention of Rose Fiori, the city's Political Kingmaker, who is intent on ensuring Camden's billion-dollar Development Initiative funnels directly into her purse. Aaron is the ideal pawn in Rose's political game of chess. But his brother, Ashley "Spark" Best, and Spark's father, "O.G." are two of the city's biggest drug dealers. "O.G's" murder sets off a wave of violence, and Aaron's family ties must be served immediately. A dark-horse in the City Council race against Aaron is Richie Rodriguez, a heroin dealer suspected in the mistaken identity murder of a local university student. Richie's street family's quest for control of the city's drug trade is on a collision course with Spark's organization. Rose's Grand Plan is in full swing, and Aaron can't afford to be guilty by association, not with Richie as his main opposed for the vacant City Council seat.
