The Brigade - the story of the Petofi Brigade

The Petofi Brigade is a Yugoslav unit in WWII, drafted mostly from ethnic Hungarian peasants and laborers. The Brigade existed only for 6 months. It had around 1500 troops. They were sent unequipped to the front line in Slavonia, ostensibly to fight Fascism together with the other ethnicities in Yugoslavia. According to some, the Yugoslavian partisans used them as cannon fodder, punishing the Hungarians of Voivodina for the raids in Novi Sad.
