All Creatures Great & Small: Seasons of the Dales

6.3 / 10 | 5h | United States
2026 | Documentary
The primary cast of All Creatures Great & Small (2020) talk about filming in the Yorkshire Dales, a key component of the show, but the challenges faced in the ever changing weather where several proverbial seasons can happen within the span of hours. As such, the filming crew has to prepare for any weather and/or weather change eventuality, which needs to take into consideration continuity between shots. They also talk about the importance of the Dales holistically to the show, and the differences between their present days lives versus that of their characters in 1940s rural North Yorkshire. Series star Nicholas Ralph hosts segments on the Grassington 1940s Weekend (Grassington where scenes for the Town of Darrowby are filmed for the series), a festival celebrating all that is 1940s Grassington, and the Nidderdale Show, a typical agricultural show. He compares what happens at these two events to similar situations that have taken place in the series, and he hopes to take away from these events things that can be used in the series. And Anna Madeley, who portrays Mrs. Hall, cook extraordinaire, in the series, but in real life is a non-cook/non-baker, spends time with the series' chef, Bethany Heald, who teaches her how to make an authentic version of Mrs. Hall's famous shortbread.
